Whether or not a person likes the spicy food was not only influenced by cultural factors and habit. Personality factors apparently contribute to food choices.
People who like the challenge of open and generally more like spicy food. Similarly, according to the conclusions of recent studies.
The researchers conducted personality tests on 184 people who smoked 18 to 45 years old, they do it to see if the participants have a personality like a challenge, dare to take risks and experience new personality sedatives or less open to things challenging.
In addition, the researchers also asked participants to mengicip capcaisin, the compound that makes peppers spicy sensation on, with different levels of spiciness. The participants were then asked to give their preference scale on spicy foods while tasting capcaisin which gives a burning sensation on their tongue.
Those who like the challenge remains to answer like spicy food though capcaisin intensity increased. While they are sedatives answer not like spicy food.
"In theory we know, spicy intensity and liking for spicy food is directly proportional," said study author Nadia Byrnes from Pennsylvania State University.
The more spicy foods, he added, should the people do not like it. "But not always like that," said Byrnes.
Results of this study was presented at the annual meeting of the Institute of Food Technologist, Chicago, so the data and final conclusions are still waiting until published in a journal.
