Healthy living begins with good lifestyle and regular. Including by regulating sleep patterns. By implementing a regular sleep pattern, you can not only recover stamina, but still you know there are unexpected benefits.
It's the unexpected things that you can get from a good sleep pattern, as quoted from health.com, Thursday (07/11/2013):
1. Improve memory
Did you know if you actually thought you were busy during the middle of deep sleep. When sleeping, you can strengthen memories or 'train' abilities to learn when you are awake. This is a process called consolidation.
"When you learn something, whether physical or mental, the best thing to do is to exercise," says Dr. Rapoport, professor at NYU Langone Medical Center.
"But the 'exercises' that occurs during sleep will make you able to learn better," he added. In other words, if you try to learn something new, then you will be doing better after you sleep.
2. Prevent inflammation
Inflammation associated with heart disease, stroke, diabetes, arthritis, and premature aging. Research shows that people who sleep less than six hours, had higher blood levels of inflammatory proteins than those who sleep with more time.
Study in 2010 found that C-reactive protein is associated with heart attacks, higher in those who sleep for six hours or less in a single night. "People who have sleep apnea or insomnia may experience increased blood pressure and inflammation," said Dr. Rapoport.
2. Spark creativity
After a good night's sleep and consolidate memories while awake, the brain will organize and merekstruktrusisasi the things that have been studied previously. This could create more creativity. Researchers at Harvard University and Boston College find that during sleep can strengthen the emotional component and memory so that it can accelerate the process of creativity.
3. Improve student achievement
According to a study in the journal Sleep in 2012, children aged 10 to 16 years who have gangguang breathing during sleep such as snoring, sleep apnea, and type of breathing that can disrupt sleep, more likely to have attention problems in learning.
"This has resulted in significant functional impairment at school," the researchers wrote. In another study, students who do not have enough sleep have worse figures. "If you try to stay up to meet the deadline, it's clear things are heavy and can damage learning," says Dr. Rapoport.
4. Hyperactivity when lack of sleep
According to Dr. Rapoport, side effects of sleep deprivation in children is not the same as adults. While adults tend to be sleepy when lack of sleep, the children became hyperactive. A 2009 study in the journal Pediatrics found that children aged seven and eight years old who slept less than eight hours tend to be hyperactive, inattentive, and impulsive.
"We diagnose and measure the hours of sleep by measuring the electrical changes in the brain. So it is not surprising how sleep can affect our brain," explains Dr. Rapoport.
5. Lose weight
Researchers at the University of Chicago found that people who diet coupled with a good rest, lost 56 percent more fat than those who diet and lack of sleep. Lack of sleep also causes the dieter feeling hungry.
"Sleep and metabolism are controlled by the same sector of the brain," says Dr. Rapoport. "When you are sleepy, certain hormones in your blood rise and trigger other hormones that increase appetite," he continued.
6. Reduce stress
In health, sleep and stress equally affect heart health. "Sleep can definitely reduce stress levels, so blood pressure would be better. Additionally, sleep also affect cholesterol levels play an important role in heart disease," explains Dr. Jean.
7. Prevent accidents
In a state of drowsy driving is not recommended. The national Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2009 reported fatigue and sleepiness being the single highest cause of accidents.
"Sleepiness is always underestimated by most people, but it can be fatal, including for the community. Difficulty sleeping can affect reaction time we will take a decision," said Dr. Rapoport.
Driving in the previous state did not sleep for one night with driving drunk or under the influence of alcohol.
8. Preventing depression
"Lack of sleep can lead to depression. A good night sleep can help someone who is moody reduce anxiety. Emotion is more stable," explains Dr. Jean.
